Listen to Your Body: What is it Saying?

Answer weight gain, dry eyes, dry skin, joint pain and other aging issues with food.

If you slow down and listen, your body really does talk to you. I had a client ask me last week if there are diet changes that might impact his dry skin. The short answer: Yes, diet impacts skin for sure!

Sometimes pesky symptoms people deal with are not covered in session, because we are talking about other wellness issues and goals. Skin issues sometimes fall into that category. Dry skin manifests in lots of ways: dry eyes, bumpy skin around your elbow, arms, legs, face, rashes or redness, dry scalp or dandruff, itchy skin, thirst and even joint pain.

And, yes, diet changes do help mitigate those symptoms.

To alleviate dry skin, try to:

  1. Hydratemore than you think you should. Maybe you just need more water.
  2. Eat LOTS of healthy fats, such as olive oil, fatty fish, avocados, walnuts, for the high omega content and anti-inflammatory properties.
  3. Focus on Vitamin A + C. Eat sweet potatoes, carrots, oranges, spinach, yellow and red peppers, broccoli and tomatoes. These veggies give us high amounts of beta carotene and Vitamin C and all have antioxidant properties.

How? Easy peasy, don’t overthink it.

  1. Grab a handful of walnuts as a snack
  2. Eat an avocado as a snack with lemon
  3. Make a sweet potato as a side for dinner tonight
  4. Make your own salad dressing with olive oil or simply drizzle olive oil and lemon with salt

Just focusing on those small changes could really make a difference!

Let us know if we can discuss your symptoms, big or small. We believe (perhaps a bit biasedly) that food changes and finding your best diet is the key to feeling great!

This is just one example of how to eat your building blocks to impact how you feel. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be highlighting the different nutrients we get from food and how it makes you feel. Follow along and listen to your body to draw a bigger, broader line from well-being to food.
