Trouble with Digestion? Let Your Appliances Help!

Cooking & kitchen tools break down food fibers, making them easier to digest.

At Healthy Nest, we’ve noticed that some clients experience digestive issues when eating raw foods versus cooked foods. While there is no doubt that salads are healthy options, the fiber content of raw vegetables can be too much for some people’s systems to digest. This may present as bloating, stomach pain, a lack of energy following meals as well as other symptoms. When this happens, your best bet is to let your appliances start the digestion process for you!

heating food helps digestion

When your digestive system is less taxed with cooked foods, you will break down and absorb nutrients more efficiently and, most importantly, feel better.

Here are some examples of how you can swap cooked foods for raw foods:

  • Swap veggie soups for salads
  • Swap roasted vegetables for a plate of cut up veggies (crudité)
  • Swap meat stews and soups for quick, al dente stir frys
  • Swap steamed fish for grilled meats
  • Swap baked apples for raw apples

Blending food helps digestion

Another way to have your kitchen tools help you break down foods for easier digestion is to blend fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. A good blender will spin food fibers to break them down with a sharp blade. Blending foods make them easier to digest.

Blended broccoli or cauliflower soup is much easier on your digestion than those raw veggies. Peanuts, cashews, almonds and sunflower butters are sold commercially but can be made at home by blending the nuts or seeds. Nut butters are way easier to digest than the whole peanut, cashew, almond or sunflower seed because the fibers of the nut/seed are dismantled. Fruit smoothies are another way to easily enjoy your fruits & veggies. Again, the blender has done the work for you!
